This sculptural wall piece is made from several different kinds of natural color wool felt that I have sourced from all over the country including black welsh mountain sheep wool, corriedale, merino, coopworth and shetland wool. I spent the majority of the summer of 2010 making this sculpture. The piece is further embellished with dyed merino wool patterns that are inspired by fungi spore prints.
The sculpture contains approximately 600 individual pieces that have been hand wet felted. The wool felt balls are hung using irish linen thread that have been coated in beeswax and are hanging from a hand planed piece of black walnut wood that still has a bit of bark on it. This is the companion piece for the show "Seamless" that was shown with the piece "Summer Cluster". This sculpture is based on fungi clusters and spore prints taken earlier that summer.
